The biomarkers worth tracking for longevity

A standard blood panel has dozens of numbers, and most of them will not change how long you stay healthy. A much smaller set does most of the predicting. This guide covers the markers worth tracking, what each one tells you, and the difference between a normal result and a longevity optimal one.

The options, honestly

Cardiovascular

ApoB and Lp(a)

ApoB counts the particles that actually drive artery disease and is a better signal than standard cholesterol. Lp(a) is largely genetic and worth measuring once. Keeping ApoB low is one of the highest impact things you can do for a long life.

Inflammation

hs-CRP and Omega-3 Index

hs-CRP tracks background inflammation, and the Omega-3 Index is a lever you can move quickly with diet. Chronic inflammation quietly ages nearly every system.

Metabolic

HbA1c, fasting insulin and triglycerides

HbA1c and fasting insulin catch metabolic trouble years before glucose looks abnormal. Triglycerides round out the picture. Metabolic health underwrites almost everything else.

Foundational

Vitamin D, liver and kidney

Vitamin D is an easy, common gap. ALT for the liver and eGFR for the kidneys are quiet but important guardrails.

Which single biomarker matters most for longevity?

There is no single winner, but ApoB is a strong candidate because cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death and ApoB predicts it better than standard cholesterol. If you had to pair it with one more, add a marker of metabolic health like HbA1c or fasting insulin.

ApoB versus LDL cholesterol, what is the difference?

LDL measures the cholesterol carried in particles, while ApoB counts the particles themselves. Because it is the particles that lodge in artery walls, ApoB is often the more accurate risk signal, especially when the two disagree.

What is the difference between a normal and an optimal range?

Normal ranges are set to flag disease across the whole population. Longevity optimal ranges are tighter targets associated with the lowest long term risk. A result can be normal on a lab report and still be well short of optimal. Jevity shows both for every marker.

How often should I test these?

Once or twice a year is enough for most people, and more often when you are actively changing something and want to see it work.
